A non dos question about slow computers

Does anybody on this forum know why my computer is slowing down (or where to find answers)?

I have a Dell computer with Win XP that used to be VERY fast. But it's been getting slower and slower. I have Kaspersky and it isn't finding and virus or malware. I have done disk cleanup and defrag and run a registry cleaner program - all to no effect.
